Dublin City is the capital of the Republic of Ireland and sits on a splendid bay at the mouth of the River Liffey with the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains rising from its southern suburbs. It is internationally noted for its writers, Georgian architecture, witty natives and the production of Guinness! Since its beginning as an ecclesiastical settlement it has over time been a key Viking raiding and trading base, a Norman stronghold, second city of the British Empire and capital of an independent state.

As one of the oldest cities in Europe, Dublin provides the visitor with a multitude of cultural riches, from the ancient to the avant-garde. It is a warm intimate city with an atmosphere all of its own. Visit the superb collections at the galleries and museums, explore the ancient castles and churches, inspiring structures housing a city steeped in history and tradition. Experience Irish theatre, dine in style, or relax by a log fire in an old Dublin pub and join in the craic. Dance from midnight till dawn or get away from it all, Dublin has what you are looking for. On the Dublin City tour, you will view all the main sights of the capital including the Phoenix Park, O’ Connell Street; Georgian Dublin, Merrion Square, and you will visit St. Patricks Cathedral situated in the heart of old Dublin.

St Patrick’s Cathedral
The cathedral is the national cathedral of Ireland and it is also the largest cathedral in the country. The grounds where the cathedral is built, was the place where St. Patrick is said to have baptized the pagans to Christianity in the 5th century and there has been a cathedral on this site ever since. The cathedral was badly damaged during the Cromwellian invasion in Ireland in the 12th century and it was eventually completely re-furbished by the Guinness family in the 19th century. Jonathan Swift, author of Gullivers’ Travellers was Dean of the cathedral for 32 years and his remains are buried within the cathedral.

Trinity College & the Book of Kells

You also visit the grounds of Trinity College, which will introduce you to the famous university campus. Queen Elizabeth founded the university in 1592. The university has seen many famous students including Douglas Hyde, the first president of Ireland. The Book of Kells is situated within the grounds of Trinity College in the long hall of the Old Library. It is the principal treasure of the library and it is encased in glass in order to preserve this fine treasure. The book is a magnificently illuminated copy of the Gospels designed by unknown hands in the monastery of Kells in Meath about 800. (You may experience delays due to queues at the Book of Kells)

The Old Jameson Distillery
The tour of the distillery features working models of a mash tun, a waterwheel and a bottling line. There is a short video on the Story of Irish Whiskey and the tour culminates in the bar area where you experience the taste of Irish Whiskey. There is also a ‘little’ whisky tasting game where 4 people are picked out of the group and they are given the opportunity of tasting Scotch, American & Irish Whiskey. The aim of the exercise is to point out the difference between Irish whiskey and others.
At the end of the tour where the group assemble in the bar where there is a whiskey tasting introduction and sampling of Irish whiskey for all the Group

Guinness Storehouse
– Guinness Store House is a Self Guided Tour
Situated in the heart of old Dublin, the Guinness Hopstore is your introduction to the worlds most famous creamy stout. Established in 1876, when Guinness was poised to become the largest brewery in the world, the Hopstore remained crammed with hopsacks (usually called bales of pockets) until 1957 when another hopstore replaced it. The Hopstore now has been converted into one of Dublins finest venues for historical and cultural exhibitions and events.

Here you can visit the World of Guinness, an exciting re-telling of the Guinness story through museum displays and audio-visual presentations. You can walk through a reconstructed Victorian mash tun for your introduction to the brewing lesson. These enormous vessels (of which there were 24 in the old brewery house) were built by the old Dublin engineering company of William Spence, in nearby Cork Street. You can then enjoy an entertaining display of each of the raw materials used in the making of Guinness – Yeast, Hops, Barley and Water. In the comfortable surrounding of the Visitors Bar you can sample a glass or two (if you prefer a bottle) of Guinness for which Dublin has become famous throughout the world. The Tour is self-guiding commencing with an introduction in German and passengers walk through the self-guided building there after finishing at the top of the building where they will be served a pint of Guinness. Limited Audio earphones are available with German explanation.
