The eyes of the golfing world will move to Ireland from 19-25 September in 2011 when the best golf players on the planet prepare for battle at The 2011 Solheim Cup being hosted at Killeen Castle Dunsany Co Meath.

The Solheim Cup is the most highly coveted trophy in women’s professional golf team competition. This biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition features the best U.S.-born players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the best European members from the Ladies European Tour (LET). The U.S. Team leads the competition, 8-3; in 2009, the Americans kept their untarnished home record intact with a 16 to 12 final score against the Europeans.

Founded in 1990, when the sponsor Karsten Manufacturing Corporation (manufacturers of PING golf equipment) decided that women professional golfers should have an equivalent event to The Ryder Cup. The event was named after the company’s founder Karsten Solheim and took the form of a biennial transatlantic team matchplay competition between European members of the Ladies European Tour (LET) and US born members of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).
